Obstructive Sleep Apnea’ is basically where somebody stops breathing during sleep. It is fairly common and some tell-tale symptoms can include:
- Snoring
- High blood pressure
- Diabetes
- Constantly feeling tired
- Irritability
- Nodding off during the day
- Metabolic change (e.g. - put on weight)
As ‘Obstructive Sleep Apnea’ is due to a blockage in the airway (hence the name) there is no cure. There are a variety of treatments that have been used with varying success. The most common is a CPAP machine- a device that acts as an airway splint, keeping it open so that the air can travel to your lungs. Many misconceptions have arisen regarding CPAP machines either about their noise or size but the reality is that MOST of them are small and fairly inaudible.
Please feel free to look over the machines in our range, but please keep in mind that before looking to purchase a CPAP machine you should consult your GP and book in for a ‘Sleep Study’.
