Most accidents happen in the bathroom. And it is not surprising: toilets are often dangerously low, water can make surfaces VERY slippery, standing in the shower for fifteen minutes while you wash can be an endurance struggle- the list goes on.
One of the first things you should consider if worried about the bathroom is invest in a shower chair \ shower stool. These make showering so much easier; reaching areas you need to clean is much simpler, the height can be adjusted to suit individual user requirements and there are usually arms on the side to help stand up or sit down. There are quite a few options when choosing a shower chair or stool- there is steel for strength or aluminium for longevity of life without rust. Padded seats for comfort, or plastic for economy.
Another great concern is the height of most toilets. Many people find that getting up off the toilet can be a huge struggle. Some may even be tempted to grab onto the towel rack for a little support... only to find it comes straight off the wall and you end up on the floor! There are a myriad of items you can purchase to assist in this area- if you just need to raise the height of the seat you could buy a toilet riser, or just the rails would be a toilet surround. However, the most popular choice by far the the over toilet frame. This one item does both; raise the toilet AND give rails either side of the bowl.
There are plenty of other bathroom aids consisting of long handled sponges, grab rails to further increase mobility and free standing commodes (for those that want to avoid making the trip to the bathroom in the middle of the night!).
