The shower can be quite difficult to navigate when mobility is an issue. Not only do you have very limited space in the cubical, but you then need to stand there while you clean yourself. There are so many dangers here; exhaustion, bending over to pick-up the soap or shampoo, slipping over- all these can be addressed by purchasing a shower chair or a shower stool.

A shower chair (which looks very much like an out-door patio chair) is height adjustable so that your feet touch the ground at all times. They are usually made out of standard steel and plastic to keep the price down and are zinc treated and power-coated to avoid rust, however there are also shower chairs made in aluminium to avoid unsightly rust and reduce lift weight.

Shower stools are often used when a cubical is too small for the chair variety. A shower stool is usually backless to reduce size and should be considered when the user is a little more confident that they will feel stable there-on. The benefit of not having a back on the stool is that it does become slightly easier for the user to clean behind themselves when showering. Shower stools are also height adjustable, are usually made of steel too (but can also be purchased in rust-free aluminium) and have arms either side to aid in standing or sitting.
