Underarm crutches are the most commonly used crutches around the world. They are simple in design and are categorised as having a padded flat area on top that sits nicely under the patient’s arm. To use underarm crutches, the patient reaches over the padded area to hold the hand grip. Underarm crutches are slightly cheaper than forearm crutches and are typically designed only for patients suffering from temporary disabilities. They generally are available in timber, steel and aluminium.
